Calgary to Alaska Cruise: The Real Total Cost Breakdown

Alaska cruise ads love a headline fare. Here is what a Calgary couple realistically spends on a 7-night Inside Passage sailing from Vancouver, so nothing ambushes your credit card.

What does an Alaska cruise from Calgary cost in total?

Prices below are per couple, at recent prices, for a 7-night round trip from Vancouver. Cruise costs are charged in US dollars on most bookings, so they are shown with a rough Canadian-dollar equivalent.

The fare itself

Inside cabins run roughly US$700–1,100 per person in shoulder season (May and September), and balconies about US$1,200–2,000. Peak summer, when Alberta schools are out, pushes both higher. When Alaska cruise prices drop covers timing.

Getting from Calgary to the ship

The flight to Vancouver is about an hour and a half, and you gain an hour crossing into Pacific time. Even so, fly the day before: a delayed morning flight is the most common way Albertans miss a ship (see flying the day before vs same day).

From YVR, the Canada Line SkyTrain runs to Waterfront station, a short walk from Canada Place, for around C$10 each including the airport add-fare. What about driving or Seattle?

The onboard spend nobody budgets

Gratuities run about US$18–25 per person per day depending on the line, or roughly US$250–350 per couple for the week. A latte here and a beer at the glacier there adds US$200–400 without a package. Wifi is US$100–200 for the week if you need it.

Shore excursions: the big variable

Insurance and documents

How to cut the bill

1. Sail in May or September rather than July or August.
2. Book flights early, or watch for seat sales on the Calgary–Vancouver route.
3. Prepay gratuities in CAD where the line allows it.
4. Pick one standout excursion each and do the rest on foot.
5. Skip the drink package unless the maths clearly works.

Where the money hides

Two identical cabins on the same sailing can differ by hundreds of dollars depending on when and how they were booked, and whether the fare came with prepaid gratuities, onboard credit or a drink package.
