Norwegian Cruise Line Gratuities: How Much Per Day and Can You Prepay
Norwegian's tipping structure has two layers most first-timers don't expect.
The daily service charge
At recent rates, roughly $20 USD per person per day in standard cabins and about $25 in Haven suites, applied to all guests. Norwegian revises the figure periodically; confirm the current amount. A couple on 7 nights: around $280 USD.
The package service charge
NCL's "Free at Sea" style perks — drinks, specialty dining, wifi — are bundled into many fares, but the gratuities on those perks are not free: a charge of roughly 20% of the package's retail value is added at booking. On a couple's drinks-and-dining bundle that can be $250–350 USD. Budget for it; it's the line item that surprises most NCL first-timers.
Prepaying
The daily charge can be prepaid before sailing through your booking, locking the rate and — in CAD — the exchange, as covered in Cruise Gratuities Explained for Canadians.
Bar, spa and dining
A 20% service charge applies to bar purchases outside packages, specialty dining outside packages and spa services. Porters and guides are tipped in cash by convention.
Adjusting on board
Guest services can adjust the daily charge for a documented service problem; wholesale removal is discouraged.
