Eastern vs Western vs Southern Caribbean Cruise: Which to Pick

All three Caribbean routes deliver warm water and easy cruising. The real differences are what you do ashore, how many days you spend at sea, and how far you have to fly to reach the ship.

Eastern islands sit farther from Florida, so 7-night sailings usually spend more time crossing open water and fewer days in port. That suits people who like sea days for the pools, spa and shows.

What you do ashore

St. Thomas is known for beaches such as Magens Bay and for duty-free shopping in Charlotte Amalie. St. Maarten offers two cultures on one island, Dutch and French. Southern itineraries reach islands most Florida loops can't, including the Dutch ABC islands and the eastern arc from Barbados to Grenada. Some 7-night trips start in San Juan or Barbados, which means more port days but a longer flight from Canada. From Florida they usually stretch to 10–14 nights with several sea days each way.
