Disney Cruise Line Dress Code: Cruise Casual, Pirate Night and Optional Formal
Disney's dress code is built for families: relaxed by default, with a couple of evenings that are more about fun than formality.
Cruise casual
Every night's baseline: trousers, jeans, capris, collared shirts or nice tops, sundresses. No swimwear, tank tops or bare feet in the rotational restaurants; shorts are tolerated for children more than adults.
Optional formal or semi-formal night
Most sailings list one. Guests who enjoy dressing up do — a suit or a cocktail dress — and ship photographers set up backdrops. Families in cruise casual are seated without comment.
Pirate Night
The evening everyone remembers: a pirate-themed dinner menu, a deck party with characters, and on many sailings fireworks at sea. Costumes range from a bandana to full regalia; a pirate bandana is usually provided in the stateroom. Adults join in as much as kids.
Palo and Remy
Disney's adult-only specialty restaurants ask for dressier attire — jackets or collared shirts and dress trousers, dresses or dressy separates — every night, regardless of the ship's code.
Packing
Cruise casual plus one smart outfit (for the optional formal night or Palo) and something pirate-ish — the full formula is in Formal Nights on Cruises, and Disney's family focus is covered in Is Disney Cruise Line Right for You.

Does Disney Cruise Line have formal nights?
Optional ones — most sailings include a formal or semi-formal evening for guests who want to dress up, but the dining rooms accept cruise casual that night too, and many families don't participate.
What is Pirate Night on Disney Cruise Line?
A themed evening on most itineraries: a pirate-themed menu in the rotational restaurants, a deck party with characters, and often fireworks at sea; guests of all ages dress as pirates — costumes are optional but widely worn.
